Rylan had his second practice last night. I didn't know if we would make it in time because my mom was flying back in from Erin's house and was landing two hours before the practice. Her flight landed a little early and everything went smoothly so we did make it to practice. Of course, I didn't tell him anything until I knew for sure we would make it. He was thrilled and wanted to be there that minute.
We had bought him his own bat, so he proudly walked into practice with his glove on and his new bat in the other hand. They started the practice running the bases and then splitting into groups hitting and catching. After that ended the real entertainment began. They split the group into infield and outfield. Rylan was on 2nd base first. No matter where the ball was hit, Rylan would sprint and chase it down, usually grabbing it first. After a handful of times the coach told him if it wasn't going to him then he needed to let another kid get it, and if it past him then he needed to let the kids behind him get it. He said his classic line, "Ok, sorry." So the next ball is hit and no one goes after it. Rylan looks all around sees everyone spacing out and sprints after the ball. It was hilarious. Then the big, 5 year old that he had raced for balls with last practice came over and stood by him and then they would race for balls. Pretty much no other kid got the ball between these two. When they switched to outfield I went over to make sure Rylan was paying attention to what he had to do in the outfield. While I'm over there his new friend asks him how old he is. If Rylan answers that question then he says 5. So he tells the kid he's 5 and that he's busy catching baseballs. He's not taking his eyes off of the coach hitting the ball. The boy tells him he's 5 too and that he thinks Rylan is short. I tell him that Rylan is 3 and Rylan says, "No mommy, I'm 5."
Rylan had an awesome time again and is excited that Nate can go to the next practice to watch him play. They have one more practice and then start their crazy four weeks of games. I didn't plan on writing anything about the practice but it was just too funny. Mom joined me and I laughed most of the practice. I have a feeling the games will be pretty hilarious.
