Austin turned 5!

Austin turned 5 on June 12th.  He had his first big boy party with friend's on Saturday the 8th.  He invited all of the boys from his class and two other non-school friends.  He had a good turnout.  Almost all of the boys from school came, and his two non-school buddies made it. Another first, was he got to have two friends spend the night.  One of them made it all night, the other wanted to go home as soon as it was pj time.  His two best friends, Billy and Dillan, both turned 5 in the fall so he's be anxious about turning 5 since October.  Here are all of the things we did for his birthday week (and the end of school).

Ninja turtle cupcakes with his class the last week of school.

Ninja turtle birthday cake made as the birthday boy requested.  His only complaint was that Rapheal didn't have a nose.  :)

He was thrilled when he woke up from his nap to see all of the decorations ready for the party.

Party time!  They played on the swing set and caught a lot of baby frogs.

Triple trouble.....

Pinata time!  Austin was loving being the boss....I mean the birthday boy!

It isn't a ninja turtle party without pizza!

Cake and gifts.....

The crazy 5 catching lightening bugs and more frogs.  Rylan's friend, Mason's parents are from Fort Wayne so he calls them lightening bugs, but Austin's buddies asked what lightening bugs were. I said you probably call them fireflies.  Austin replies, "No they're lightening butts because light comes out of their butt."

Every birthday we take the kids to Chuck E Cheese and then to Toys R Us.  We go to both because it's a half hour away and the two are close to one another.  Well, this year Nate had to work on Austin's actual birthday so I decided to take them to just Chuck E Cheese and we'd bring along Charlie and Kevin friends of Rylan and Austin that are moving next at the end of June to Wisconsin.

So we pick up Charlie and Kevin at 8:30.  I'm feeling generous since it's Austin's birthday so we get birthday milkshakes on our drive to the Chuck.  We're probably 5 minutes from Chuck E Cheese and Rylan calmly informs me he has thrown up.  I, of course, think it's nothing big since he's so calm and matter of fact about it.  I'm quickly proven wrong as Charlie starts dry heaving since there is apparently a lot of puke in the back seat.  The van starts to smell and the younger two boys are cracking up at Charlie.  I pull into the Walgreens next to the Chuck.  Rylan is covered in puke.  The back seat is covered and I have to flip the seat to clean up underneath.  I clean up the van and then take all 4 boys in to clean up Rylan.  I ask the cashier where the bathroom.  She so pleasantly replies.  "You're seriously not bringing him in like that?"  I tell her "Yeah, it's happening." and walk to the bathroom with all 4 boys.  I clean up Rylan and am debating what to do since we just drove 30 minutes to get here, I have two other kids with me and it's Austin's birthday.  As I'm talking to Rylan about how he feels I hear the store alarm going off.  Yes, one of the boys has opened the emergency exit door.  It's Rylan's friend Charlie.  I ask why he opened it when of the 3 boys standing there he could actually read what the door said.  He replies, "I wanted to see if it'd really set of an alarm."  So I do the walk of shame up to the front of the store to tell the same lovely cashier that one of the boys tripped the alarm.  She says, "Why did you let them do that?"  I reply, "I thought a pukey kid wasn't enough excitement."  What the hell lady...seriously?

So now I'm like screw it we're going to Chuck E Cheese.  Rylan feels fine.  I need them to play so I can collect myself and I want them all to have fun with Austin on his birthday.  Now, Kevin is 4 1/2.  He'll be 5 in October so he's not much younger than Austin.  So get 4 cups and divide the coins between the boys.  I guess my kids are just professional game players because I assume that Kevin can handle putting a coin in the game playing and then give me the tickets.  So everyone is playing games and everytime I look Kevin is at another game.  I realize that he is putting money in a game and then going to a new one.  So I'm having to follow him, play the game and grab the tickets.  I finally catch up to him and explain that he has to play the game before he can move on.  I then give him like 10 coins and tell him he can get more once he proves he understands the concept of playing the game and giving me the tickets.  Otherwise he had to stay with me and play with limited coins.  He finally starts playing correctly and earns more coins.   The birthday boy had a blast at Chuck E Cheese and so did the other boys.  They earned 1700 tickets so he got a huge soccer ball and the other boys all got a few things as well.

This was the moment I realized Kevin was just putting money in and leaving (he's on the far left).

Everyone picked out glow in the dark fangs.  Of course, they all thought they needed a scary picture of them.

We didn't go to Taekwondo on his actual birthday, but went the day after.  He got to be a black belt for the entire class and he was THRILLED!
