Family Night with Great-Nana

I am going to start referring to my Nana as Great-Nana so there isn't confusion when I talk about my mother-in-law, Sonya who is Nana to the boys. Luckily we always call her Great-Nana at home so Rylan isn't confused. He actually calls Sonya "MY Nana" which is pretty funny.

This evening was family night at Great-Nana's assisted living facility, they do this every month or so. February was chocolate night, do I need to say that this is our favorite one so far? ;) Tonight they were having someone come in and play the piano. I decided the boys would get too antsy so I was just going to let mom go alone. I guess I was thinking all the little old ladies would get uptight about my kids moving around, boy was I wrong. So we go to Great-Nana's a little early so Rylan and Austin can spend some time with her before the concert. While we're heading out the door the pianist starts playing and Rylan gets excited and says he wants to stay to listen. I figure we'll give it a shot and sit down. The boys are like superstars there, so the moment we sat down the vultures awoke. First one woman gets up and starts dancing and is bugging Rylan to join her. He finally stands up at the end of the song and starts doing the Mickey Mouse Hot Dog dance. When the song ends, the lady sits back down, but now Rylan has discovered this great audience and starts dancing more during the next song. Forty-five hilarious minutes later he is running and jumping into the air (it took me back to my ballet days) and then falling to the ground. At the end of the song he (or was it the pianist?) were getting applause and he'd bow. I seriously wish I had my camera on me. It was priceless!

While Rylan was tapping into his theatrical side, Austin was crawling around and checking out all the canes and walkers. My mom & Great-Nana both have one and the boys are obsessed with them. When Austin discovered a walker he was really curious and was checking it out with such a serious look. Next thing I know Austin grabs the center bar of someone's walker and starts pushing it around.

Meanwhile as I am trying to keep an eye on both boys, mainly Austin the walker bandit, this woman that is a resident comes over to gossip with me. She's giving me the scoop on every single person that is sitting down there. It was hilarious. She told me I need to come visit more so we can hang out. I guess I was someone's entertainment too.

What valuable lesson did I learn today? Never leave home without the camera!

  1. That is too sweet, Dawn! You'll have to go back and take your camera for sure! Sounds like all of you made someone's day at that place a little more special and entertaining. :)
