The kids & I were gone from home for 20 days. We traveled through a total of 12 states and drove 3,352 miles. Nate joined us on the first and last week of our trip. Our first week we went to Washington DC. We enjoyed seeing all of the sights. The boys favorite was the Air & Space museum. The biggest thrill there was Austin was tall enough to go onto the flight simulator. He had to be 48 inches and he is that exact height! We added another MLB park to our bucket list, going to watch the Braves play the Nationals. We scored awesome tickets behind home plate (one level up from the ones you can see on TV). It included all you can eat food and drink, our own server and VIP access to an exclusive restaurant. Other than the fact the server couldn't get Austin cotton candy (we got him some on our own) the boys had a great time. My cousin, Sarah, joined us (we had 5 tickets so it worked out perfectly). It was good to catch up with her while watching the game. The game ended up going into extra innings (13). Both boys did great and sat through the entire game. By the 13th we were all over it though and ready for someone to score so we could leave. The Braves did win so it made it sweeter since we stayed til the end!
Our first stop before arriving in DC was to an old armory in Richmond, VA that made ammunition for the Civil War. Of course, the boys heard ammunition was made there and they wanted to go.
Seeing the sights.....
We did go into the archives and saw the Declaration of Independence. No cameras allowed inside.
This turned out to be our only picture of the four of us on this trip.
Air & Space Museum
Can you tell Austin is thrilled to be in line for the flight simulator?! They both got to take a turn flying, which was pretty much the pilot spinning the vessel around the entire time. But they both loved it!
Enjoying a 3D movie about space.
Arlington Cemetery
Views from the National Monument
This guard patrolled while we were waiting to go up. Scary we live in a day and age where he needs to walk around with that big gun.
Views from the top...
Goofing around.....
