Sharpsburg Stallions, Newnan Outlaws Teams Champs

The Sharpsburg Blue Stallions 8-under Select Football Team defeated Starr’s Mill 6-0 on Nov. 22 at Starr’s Mill High School to win this year’s Southern Conference Youth Football Conference Championship. The Stallions, who finished 7-1 were the top-seed in a five-team bracket and defeated the McDonough Cougars 27-6 to reach the finals. Lineups representing Sharpsburg Stallions and Newnan Outlaws programs has teams showcased dominance this year in the Southern Youth Football Conference this fall, with six earning championships following last month’s Super Bowl games on Nov. 22 to close the 2014 season.
The Stallions captured conference titles in 8-under, 10-under, 11-under and 12-under select divisions, while the Outlaws had its 8-under and 9-under recreation teams win championships during undefeated seasons.
The SYFC, which is the second- largest youth football conference in the state behind the Gwinnett Foot- ball League, is comprised of teams from Fayette, Fulton, Henry, Lamar and Pike counties.
Both Outlaw lineups earned the No. 1 seed in respective playoff brackets.
The 8-under team finished undefeated at 8-0 after defeating the third-seeded Pike County Pirates 12-7 in the division Super Bowl held in Brooks. The team advanced by shutting out No. 5 Lamar County 7-0.
The 9-under Outlaws defeated Landmark 15-12 in the Super Bowl after advancing past No. 4 seed Locust Grove 7-0 in the semifinals.
Sharpsburg’s 10-under and 11-under select teams each completed 8-0 seasons after finishing as respective No. 1 seeds during the regular season. The 10-under Stallions went on to outscore its two playoff oppo- nents by a combined score of 46-0 that included a 14-0 victory over No. 3 seeded Pike County in the finals.
The 11-under Stallions advanced to its division Super Bowl by blank- ing fifth-seeded Brooks 46-0 before defeating No. 2 Locust Grove 28-14 in the championship game.
Sharpsburg’s 8-under Blue Stallions also finished first during the regular season and capped off a 7-1 season with playoff victories over No. 4 seed McDonough (27-6) and No. 2 Starr’s Mill, blanking the Panthers 6-0 in the championship game.
The 12-under Stallions won a select title by upsetting No. 1 Brooks 45-28 in the Super Bowl. A 6-2 record included a shutout in the semifinals over Starr’s Mill, winning 25-0.
Two teams representing the Newnan Outlaws reached champion- ship games before falling short. The 6-under select team upset the No. 1 seeded Sharpsburg Stallions 31-26 before falling to Sandy Creek 53-37 in the Super Bowl to close a 7-1 season.
The Outlaws 11-under recreation team finished first during the regular season, advancing to the finals with a 34-0 shutout of Sharpsburg before falling 6-2 to No. 2 seed Landmark.
