Nate was head coach of Austin's team again this year. He was on the 5/6 year old team and they did awesome. They ended the season in 1st place with a 8-1 record. Their only loss during the regular season was to the only other team in our county. While our team was better than them, we were not in our element and the boys did not play to their normal potential.
Post season we made the playoffs. We won the first game and the second game we played the only team that had beaten us....Newnan. We were losing by a touchdown most of the game. With 2 minutes left in the game, we were down by 2 touchdowns (13 points to be exact). We ended up scoring, with only a minute remaining, make us down by 6 points. We did an onside kick and got the ball back! Our parents were going nuts! First snap and we scored again! Our entire sideline ran down the field as one of the kids scored! We made the extra point and were winning by one point. The winner of this game was going to the Super Bowl and we were so excited! 38 seconds were left on the clock. We had a problem with the scoreboard operator running the clock correctly, the entire game. After our TD the refs meet in the middle, Nate walks up to be a part of their conversation. They say since we're a 6U team we are now on running clock rules because the game is at an hour and a half. Nate makes sure the other head coach knows what's going on. Running clock will only stop if a time out is called. We have 1 left, Newnan has 2. We kick the ball, and we call time out. The clock never moves. Nate yells at the refs, figuring they are keeping score on the field like they are supposed to doesn't worry much about it. They snap the ball, we tackle, they call time out. Clock never moves. Again, Nate is yelling at the refs. They snap the ball, we tackle, they use their last time out. Again the clock never moves. They snap the ball again, we tackle again and the clock never moves, this time they have no time outs. Both teams know that the game should be over. One of their running backs has taken off their shoes. As Nate and the coaches are yelling at the refs, the other team realizes the clock didn't move and call a play. With one ref on the field not involved in the conversation with our sideline, they snap the ball. Our kids aren't lined up, no one is paying attention, but NOW the clock is moving. As soon as they score there is still 20 seconds or so on the clock, the scoreboard shuts off. The refs leave. The other team leaves. We are all standing there in shock. Did this really just happen? Seriously? They just won? The kids don't understand, the parents are either in shock or pissed off. After Nate tracked down the refs in the parking lot to tell them we'd dispute this game, he came to calm down the kids and parents. We already had our end of year party planned for the following day. At the party our team voted to pay the $100 fee and dispute the game. Nate wrote a 2 page letter detailing all of our complaints. We waited all week to find out the night before the Superbowl that even though we had a valid case, they were not going to overturn the game's ending. To add insult to injury, Newnan didn't practice much assuming that the game would be overturned. And a boy on our team goes to school with some of the Newnan kids and they told him that their coaches said they didn't really win the game that we did but they were going to the Superbowl anyway. Just shows the lack of class that team has. Nate keeps telling me it'll help our team in the long run, but it just ticks me off. Needless to say, Newnan got their butts kicked at the Superbowl so at least I have that satisfaction. :) Nate is already preparing for the next season.
6U Taylor Stallions
The Aus Man in action. He was full back on offense and linebacker on defense.
Coach Nathan working hard.
Rylan was water boy whenever he was there which was all but 2 games.
This marks Rylan's 4th season of football and this team. We got a lot of new players but the coaches are the same. Nate was a coach until he stepped down so he could coach Austin's team, but otherwise it's the same coaches. The season started out rocky with the coaches treating the boys like they're in high school. After a few weeks of practice we can finally start practicing in pads. The very first practice in pads, Rylan quit. He had been getting chewed out the entire practice. They did a drill where they are in a circle and two boys go in and have to push each other out of the circle. Rylan goes in with a boy 30 lbs more than him and a head taller. He's pushing and pushing, and after 30 seconds or so starts to give up a bit. The head coach starts screaming to kick his ass (seriously that's what said), he's giving up kick his ass, he's a quitter and Rylan finally is pushed out. He then yells something at Rylan and is told to go sit by his daddy until he can come and actually try. Nate tells him he did fine. No play in a game would last more than 10 seconds, that he did fine considering it was 100 degrees out and they're in full pads. The team gets a water break and the coach asks to talk to him and Nate. They go away from the team and he says Rylan isn't doing his best and asks why. Rylan replies he doesn't want to be there. He asks him if he wants to quit and Ry says yes. Shocked Nate and his coach (like I said, this has been his coach since he was 5). They tell him he can come back if he changes his mind, but the next day is his practice so he has one day to decide. He decided to go back but things were not better. Now all of the coaches but one were up his ass about everything he did. It was a long, long season. I hated it. Rylan hated it. I hated that he'd get ass chewed for not blocking good enough while other kids messed up and hardly anything was said, that is if anything was said. This season taught Rylan a lot. It's hard to sit back and watch your son go through life, learning things the hard way but it's part of life. Fortunately he only has one more season with the Stallions and then he can play football for his school in 5th grade. Not sure if he'll stay on this team or not but as of right now, we plan on him being on another team.
8U Select Clayton Stallions
Action shots of the Ry Guy. He played offensive line and very seldomly subbed on defense. He used to start on both Offense & Defense so this was another big adjustment this year.
Proud of their helmet stickers from this season.
