Times seems to go in warp speed once you have children. Since Austin is our baby, it seems so surreal that he is 6 years old. I keep telling Rylan and Austin we need to freeze time but the don't seem to agree.
This year for his birthday we did a small party inviting only 4 friends and they spent the night. Well only 2 actually made it to the morning. Rylan had 2 friends sleep over as well. All the boys played well together. One of Austin's friends played more with Rylan and his buddies (which drove the big boys nuts) but all in all it was a great party.
Austins' theme was Indiana Jones. He's been obsessed with Indiana Jones since his first trip to Disney seeing the stunt show at Hollywood Studios. Our past trip in December we saw the show 3 or 4 times while we were there. Apparently none of his friends have heard of Indiana Jones. 50 questions about why they got a hat and why they got a whip. What is the purpose of the whip? Why is their's so small compared to Austin's. I told them to go to the I.J. stunt show whenever they went to Disney and all would be explained.
The cakes we saw on pinterest weren't doable by mommy so I made the next best thing, a treasure cake. As I'm making him a chocolate cake per his request he asks for a cookie cake to. So the top where the treasure is located is actually a giant chocolate chip cookie.
I lucked out and bought cowboy hats at the Dollar Tree and cut them to look like an Indiana Jones hat. The extra part became the whip. Birthday boy got a real hat and whip courtesy of Party City's Halloween section.
Thankfully two party goers came early. Apparently 1:00 isn't early enough!
What's a party without video games? And am I the only one who finds it weird, the boys who aren't playing will just sit and watch?
The whole gang
We did a scavenger hunt to find the treasure (pinata). Rylan's friends are both the youngest in their family so they eagerly helped out reading the clues.
You'd think that after 8 years of pinatas I'd buy an actual pinata stick at Party City. But NO I don't. This time around we bent the crap out of my broom stick.
Cake and gifts!
Playing outside
The boys had a silly string fight. It went much better than I thought it would.
Glow whiffle balls and beach balls were a crowd pleaser.
Ended the night with catching frogs & lightening bugs.
Rylan's friends asked to fish because they could see two large bass. I said no, we only have 4 rods and there are 7 of you. They all ended up getting large sticks to try to "spear" the fish. Only seaweed was caught with this method.
One boy left at 6 that night, not even attempting to sleep over. Another left at 10 pm and when I returned from dropping him off the third was sitting in the living room playing video games with the big kids. Dillan and Austin were the only two that went to sleep easily (by 9:45).
