September Fun

We have had a great month of September. It's hard to believe there is only a few more days left. The most important date of the month, Saturday, September 18th marked Rylan's 5th birthday. I had good intentions of posting a pic of the birthday boy on his birthday, but of course, didn't. He had an awesome birthday and we are loving how much he is growing up (Nate more than me, I am a little sad about it). On Friday, 9/17 we had a party with his preschool class at a local jumping place. The kids had a blast and we had a really good turnout. The mom's that came had fun too, getting a chance to socialize and let their kids wear out before nap time.

On his actual birthday he had his first soccer game and first baseball game (yes we are the crazy parents that put our 5 year old in two sports at once). The games were back to back but he did great at both. For baseball he has moved up to the coach pitch. He is getting better at hitting the ball from a pitch but it keeps going foul. We are just happy he is hitting it from the coach some of the times. He still hits hard when he gets to hit off the tee. They get 3 pitches from the coach and 2 off the tee. This year they actually get outs but don't count them. In the spring season they will start to actually count the outs. For now the ump calls you out and you have to go back to the dug out. Rylan had only gotten out once (of the 5 games he has played so far). He has gotten a few outs of his own and gets mad when he doesn't get someone out (wonder where he got that from?).

This is his first time to play soccer. Seeing him excel at baseball and knowing how well my brother was at soccer I expected him to be great. Then I reminded myself he's not Jordan, he's not Jordan's son and being good at baseball won't mean he's good at soccer. So by game day I had lowered my expectations. He had only one practice the week before. The way soccer is run he has a 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game. Since soccer was an hour before baseball we had to leave after 15 minutes of the game so we could get to baseball. He did well at practice and then for the game the coach put him in first so he could be sure that he'd play before we had to leave. They had 4 on 4 playing and Rylan was immediately a natural. During the time he played before getting pulled out, he was aggressive, stole the ball whenever the other team got it and kicked it down to the goal (didn't make a goal that game but is ready to try again this week). Seeing him play brought back so many great memories of my childhood watching my brother play. He loved soccer and is pumped up for his next game.

I have lots of pictures that I finally downloaded and am editing them to post. I wish I had posted one of Rylan for his birthday but at least I know that his actual day was great!
